The Tide Is Turning: Why We Must Protect Our Children Through Cleaner Food
April 22, 2025.
HHS & FDA announces a plan to remove toxic artificial food dyes from U.S. food supply and medication,
Finally—aggressive action steps are being enacted to safeguard our children’s precious, developing minds and bodies. This movement began with concerned parents—relentlessly and unapologetically raising their voices to doctors, teachers, neighbors, family members, lawmakers, and leadership at every level. Now, government agencies are finally starting to prioritize children’s health.
This kind of overhaul doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time, patience, and unwavering perseverance. What weighs heavy on my heart is the suffering so many have endured due to a lack of accountability and urgency. The science, data, and logic have always been there. We just needed the will to act.
Our food system remains saturated with artificial dyes, dangerous seed oils, preservatives, and chemical additives—ingredients engineered for shelf life and visual appeal rather than nourishment. These substances aren’t just unnecessary; they are harmful.
Food dyes like Red 40 and Yellow 5 have been linked to behavioral issues in children, including hyperactivity and attention disorders. Other additives are associated with hormone disruption, allergic reactions, and long-term health risks such as cancer. And children—whose bodies and brains are still developing—are the most vulnerable.
Kids deserve better. They deserve real food that supports healthy growth, not chemically-altered snacks disguised as treats. It’s time for full transparency from food companies and bold advocacy for clean, honest ingredients. The health of the next generation depends on it.
I’ve been teaching my children to honor and care for their bodies since they were little—long before it was popular, accepted, or even understood. For years, it felt like I was swimming against the current, often mocked or misjudged for the choices I made.
And now, here we are. Honestly, it feels like a dream. To be in this moment—still showing up with love and intention—as we actively participate in shifting a deeply broken paradigm. From processed, dye-filled, toxic foods to safer, more supportive alternatives, the tide is finally turning.
It’s not easy. And we still have much to figure out. But I’m grateful. I know we can do better—and we must.
Today, 43% of U.S. children—about 32 million—have at least one of 20 chronic health conditions. That number rises to over 54% when we include obesity and developmental delays. One in five children is on medication.
These aren’t just statistics. These are our children.
I’m grateful for this journey, for the lessons learned, for the meaningful conversations with decision-makers, and for the quiet strength this path has cultivated in me. The work continues, and so do we—with hope, intention, and unwavering love.
